Tahkiya Willis was born during a time when hip hop music was first breaking ground and pop music was rapidly changing. Her biggest idol and musical inspiration, Michael Jackson, was at the top of the charts while she was a kid growing up in Springfield, Massachusetts. It was at the tender age of 8 that Willis fell in love with hip hop and pop music genres and realized she wanted to spend the rest of her life making music. Singer/actress Aaliyah was another one of Willis' musical influences and the inspiration from which the acronyms R.E.D. are derived. After Aaliyah's tragic passing in 2001, R.E.D. decided to move to New York City to pursue her dream of being a music producer. It was her talent as an MC, however, that gave her the opportunity to perform on Joe Jacksons Hip Hop Bootcamp a pilot reality show geared for network television. Though the pilot was never picked up, R.E.D made it to the finals and received great encouragement from the celebrity judging panel, including Joe Jackson, Kurtis Blow, and Marly Marl who gave her a perfect score of 10 for her rap performance.
Over the past 3 years, R.E.D. has become a producing sensation online and has earned a huge following on YouTube where she showcases her music arrangement and production skills in short videos. She has collaborated with up and coming artists such as Sunita Devi, Danger Rich, and Steady Beatz, just to name a few. Her music and videos have been played over 700,000 times on MySpace and YouTube. And, her instrumentals have been featured on season 2 of Bravo network's The Real Housewives of Atlanta.
R.E.D. currently resides in New York City. She works for a juvenile detention center as a juvenile counselor and volunteers her time at the Columbia University Medical Center in the Childrens Cancer ward. R.E.D. relealsed her first mixtape entitled The REDmix in June of 2010 and was well received by fans. She has also signed with IMMG Development/True Sound Music Group, who have worked with artist that range from Alicia Keys to Michael Jackson.
