MIL: Shire' can you introduce yourself to our readers?
Shire': Hello my name is Shire', pronounced (sha-ray). I'm a song writer and recording Artist under IMG/RaspyVoice/Universal.
MIL: When did you first discover music?
Shire': I first discovered my passion for music when I was 7 years old. My grandmother sang in church and listening to her made me want to sing.
MIL: How long have you been singing?
Shire': I started singing and performing very young but professionally for 10 years.
MIL: When did you decide to make music a career instead of a hobby?
Shire': Singing started out as hobby but it wasn't till I met Sisqo of DruHill that my dream became a reality.
MIL:How do you actually classify the style of music that you create and perform?
Shire': I would classify my sound as Hip Hop, Soul, Rhythmic R&B. I like different genres of music and those influences combined gives me my sound. I have been told my soulful voice gives people the chills. I am blessed to have such a strong voice.
MIL:What projects have you been featured on ?
Shire':I have done features with Sisqo, DruHill, DMX, Method Man, Camron, 2piece, Bossman just to name a few.
MIL:What do you think has been your biggest accomplishment thus far?
Shire': My biggest accomplishments are the lady of Soul nomination for best group when I was in Lovher and singing for the troops in Iraq & Kuwait as a solo Artist. I was the opening act for R&B singer Avant and it was a life changing experience that I'm blessed to have done
MIL: What artists were you listening to before you got in the game and are there any artists out there that have or still continue to inspire you?
Shire':I grew up listening to Destiny's Child, Lauryn Hill, Mary J Blige, Faith Evans, Monica, Brandy and DruHill. Beyonce continues to inspire me the most because she has been going nonstop with her career. But it was the success of Baltimore Natives DruHill & Sisqo that put my city on the Map and that's how I got introduced to the business.
MIL:How did you meet Sisqo of Dru Hill?
Shire': I met Sisqo when I was in High School. He came to a performance I did and loved my voice. He thought I would be perfect for his female group he was planning to develop. He then gave me the nickname "Chinky" and I became lead singer of Lovher.
MIL:What happen to the group you was apart of called LovHer?
Shire': Being apart of Lovher was a great experience for me. And just like any other female group we had our trials and tribulations. What ultimately made our success short-lived was not being able to release our debut project. But we all still communicate and support each other.
MIL:What happen with the SRC/Universal Motown label deal?
Shire': After Being in Lovher I captured the ears of Steve Rifkind who signed me to SRC/Universal as a solo artist. But after 2years of waiting to come out it was best for me to leave that situation. Which brought me to my current situation with IMG/RaspyVoice/Universal.
MIL:Moving on to more current matters,What Projects are you working on right now?
Shire':I am currently pushing my new single "Exception" and will be releasing my solo debut CD in the Fall.
MIL: How is your new deal with IMG/Raspy Voice/Universal Records going?
Shire':My new deal with IMG/RaspyVoice/Universal is going very well. I am blessed to have another situation with a team that believes in me and my career.
MIL:Is it difficult trying to get the label to understand your vision?
Shire':It hasn't been difficult for me to express my creative vision to my label. With help from my manager Charles King, Rick Robinson, Joshua Mack, Eddie Kane, Sean Barriero and the IMG team, I am able to deliver Real Music. Some say R&B is dying off but I'm the Re-incarnation!
MIL: What artists would you like to work with in the future?
Shire':In the future I would like to do a duet with Cee-Lo. I would love to collab with Jay Z, Kanye West, Drake, Nikki Minaj, Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, Alicia Keys and Chris Brow
MIL: Are their any producers you wanna work with?
Shire':As far as producers I want to work with Swiss Beats, Kanye West and Polow Da Don.
MIL:How hard is it for you as female in the Music Industry?
Shire':I think being a female in this business can have it's advantages if u got your business in place. Make sure that whatever u put out there as your image is what u want your fans and your Enemies to see.
MIL:What are your thoughts on the music industry today?
Shire':I think the music industry today allows anyone with determination and hard work to become a success. With the Internet alone you can create Your own Fan Base that supports TeamYOU! You just have to give those listeners your best. I am a firm believer in NOT giving up on your dreams no matter what! You have one life and if music is your Passion reach for the stars.
