Juson Williams a New York native earned his respect as a singer/songwriter/choreographer on Broadway and stage. His credits include The Wiz, Smokey Joe’s Café, Stormy Weather and It Ain’t Nothing But the Blues. I’ve had the honor to receive and become attached this album and its vocal genius months ago. And I will tell you, it left nothing to be desired. Juson delivered it all.
The newly anticipated album, “Jus’On Time” was released early this week. The title and intro track is an understatement. Not only is he just on time; his talent is long overdue. Being a fan of old time talent, Auto-Tune ‘less balladeer; Juson is that guy! Raw talent is back. O stranger to the mic, this album personifies Juson’s identity as an album artist whose soulful effects have created a self-sustaining world of unique R&B, and a style that boastfully wears its swagger on its sleeve.
“Getting on My Nerves,” track #2, self explanatory and fun. O of my favorite ballads on the Album is track 4, “Interesting Part,” the most immediately powerful track on the record, is one example of what he does so well. It is soulful, heartfelt and mellow, with sophisticated vocal range. Picture yourself in the hottest, hippest lounge, the lighting is warm and you hear a soothing voice over a hypnotic beat, singing, “The interesting part of loving me is loving me.” This album is definitely for the grown, hip and sexy.
“More of You”, boast a relatable sentiment to new love and passion, while “Dance with You” and “Hit the Floor” makes your body move, your hips sway and keeps your head bouncing. While “Believe in You” makes you feel like you can soar and have the world on your side. This song is defiantly in heavy rotation in my truck.”Dance with You” is a sultry dance mix with a very catchy chorus, “you body makes me get a little Coo Coo Coo, like Cocoa Puffs on a Saturday noon…” I love it. Now as much as I love this album, my ultimate jam is “Swaggalicious,” track #15. I had the privilege to see Juson perform this song at the “Sexxy In The City, Runway Show & After Party.” This track makes me want to put on my highest heels, hottest vines, my best swag, and strut down 5th Avenue as if I was walking the runway.
There is something for everyone here, a little salsa, reggae, R&B, and downright old time soul.
The albums overall appeal is 16 tracks full of subtle invention and emotionally intensity. A mature progression for a talented artist, who started at the early age of 12, today seems much clearer on which direction he wants to take. This album is a must have, but only if you’re cool.
Run a bath, burn a few candles, lay back with your eyes closed and let Juson take you to that place.
